I have nearly 30 years of emergency and cardiac nursing experience. I have lectured in the post-secondary education environment in the courses of patho-physiology, leadership and med-surg nursing within the classroom and on-line. I have taught med-surg and public health clinicals and have established new clinical sites for nursing students to enhance their occupational, Appalachian, and rural health experiences. I have been involved in the research of 3 major grants as co-investigator and currently as a primary investigator in my position at the University of Louisville School of Nursing. I am continuing my research in the area of rural and Appalachian health with specific interest in improving the mental health of farmers. I collaborate with a team of Agriculture stakeholders through the Kentucky Department of Agriculture to focus on reducing stress, depressive symptoms, and suicide in farmers and am a member of the community of practice to update the state's infrastructure to reduce suicide rates in Kentucky.
